Background Information

What is a volunteer?

A "volunteer" is anyone who, without compensation or expectation of compensation beyond reimbursement of pre-agreed expenses, performs a task at the direction of and on behalf of the agency. A volunteer must be officially accepted and enrolled by the AGMD prior to performance of any task. Unless specifically stated, volunteers shall not be considered "employees" of the organization.

Service at the discretion of the AGMD

AGMD accepts the service of all volunteers with the understanding that such service is at the sole discretion of the organization. Volunteers agree that AGMD may, at any time and for any reason, decide to terminate the volunteer's relationship with the organization.

Dismissal of a volunteer

Volunteers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all proprietary or privileged information to which they are exposed while serving as a volunteer. Failure to maintain confidentiality may result in termination of the volunteer's relationship with the AGMD or other corrective action.
Volunteers who fail to adhere to the guidelines and expectations set forth by AGMD are subject to dismissal. Reasons for dismissal may include, but are not limited to, the following: gross misconduct or insubordination; theft of property or misuse of agency materials; abuse or mistreatment of clients, staff, or other volunteers; failure to abide by agency policies and procedures; and failure to satisfactorily perform assigned duties.
No volunteer will be terminated until the volunteer has had the opportunity to discuss the reasons for possible dismissal with AGMD.

Ending your volunteer role

Volunteers may, at any time and for any reason, decide to sever their relationship with AGMD. Written notice of such decision, including reasons for resignation, should be submitted to the AGMD. A follow-up telephone meeting will also be scheduled prior to the volunteer’s resignation.

Inappropriate communications

If you receive a communication you believe to be inappropriate for any reason, and you believe you have received it in conjunction with your involvement with AGMD, please forward the email and/or additional details about the communication to the organization.
All volunteers using email communications should have updated anti-virus software installed on any computer used in conjunction with their volunteer role in AGMD.
Thank you for your willingness to volunteer for our international nonprofit organization. We greatly appreciate your graciousness, dedication, and commitment to helping others who are in need of support.
