Magdalena was born is Polish-Canadian and lives with her husband in Switzerland. She has a master of science (MSc.) degree in theoretical physics and is (slowly) completing her doctoral degree (PhD) in mathematical finance. She is a master of failing upwards. More importantly she has been recently diagnosed after a lifelong battle with CIPO caused by visceral neuromyopathy and lack of intestinal connective tissue. This linked with her hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, has made her passionate about patient advocacy. Magdalena hopes to use her interest in science, medical literature, and psychology to help give rare patients more tools for resilience. She is also working with the Blackswan Foundation in Switzerland which helps find funding for research and therapeutic developments for rare and orphan diseases. AGMD is honored to present Perspectives & Discussion about the Book, Comforting Your Uncomfortable Stomach co-authored by Laura Dotson & Dr. Kenneth Koch. During the program, the co-authors will talk about their book and invite audience participants to share their perspectives and join in on the discussion. Laura had her gallbladder removed. Immediately thereafter, she remained nauseated and would vomit 30-40 times per day. Laura was misdiagnosed for a tormenting 18 months. Her collaboration with Dr. Kenneth L. Koch as co-author of Comforting Your Uncomfortable Stomach: A companion for the Silent Sufferers of Nausea and Vomiting is a result of her finding the exact doctor she needed. Laura was referred to Dr. Koch in 2004 and diagnosed with severe gastroparesis. She is now healed and determined to share her experience to propagate education, heighten public awareness, and fundraise for research about the life-altering, silent, and lonely illnesses from which millions suffer that include the symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
